Rocky From Paw Patrol Hat – FREE Crochet Pattern

One of my friends 3 year old son absolutely loves Rocky from Paw Patrol, being nearly Christmas I decided to try to make a Rocky Hat for him. I’m sure some of the littles in your life will also love this pattern!

Materials:
  • Crochet Hook – US 5mm & US 3.5mm
  • Stitch Markers or Safety Pins
  • Yarn Needle
  • 1 large white button
  • 3 small white buttons
  • Red Heart Yarn
    • Red Spring Green
    • Charcoal
    • White
Abbreviations:
  • DC- Double Crochet
  • HDC – Half Double Crochet
  • Ch – Chain
  • SlSt – Slip Stitch
  • HDC2Tog – Half Double Crochet 2 Together
  • DC2Tog – Double Crochet 2 Together
  • HDC3Tog – Half Double Crochet 3 Together
  • *__* – repeat around

Hat:

** Ch 3 at beginning of row counts as DC in round**

  • Ch 4, SlSt to join
  • Row 1: Ch 3, 10 DC in ring
  • Row 2: Ch 3,  *2DC in next stitch*, SlSt to join at end 
  • Row 3: Ch 3, *2DC in next stitch, 1DC in next stitch*, SlSt to join top of Ch 3
  • Row 4: Ch 3, *2DC in next stitch, 1DC in next stitch, 1DC in next stitch*, SlSt to join top of Ch 3
  • Row 5-9: Ch 3 *1DC in next stitch*SlSt to join top of Ch 3
  • Row 6: join white yarn Ch 3 *1DC in next stitch*SlSt to join top of Ch 3
  • Row 11: join charcoal Ch 3 *1DC in next stitch*SlSt to join top of Ch 3
  • Row 21: Ch 3 *1DC in next stitch*SlSt to join top of Ch 3
  • *DO NOT TIE OFF END*
Earflaps:
  • Count 9 from crochet hook and place stitch marker – count 11 from stitch marker and place stitch marker – count 9 from marker and place a stitch marker (the 2 9 spaces will be the ear flaps) 
  • Row 1: Ch 3, DC next 8 stitches (to marker)
  • Row 2: Ch 3 & turn, DC2tog, DC next 4 stitches, DC2tog
  • Row 3: Ch 3 & turn, DC2tog, DC next 3 stitches, DC2tog

  • Row 4: Ch 3 & turn,  DC2tog, DC next 2 stitches, DC2tog
  • Row 5: Ch 3 & turn, DC2tog, DC2tog
  • *Cut and tie off – leave string* 

Join charcoal yarn to next stitch marker

  • Row 1: Ch 3, DC next 8 stitches (to marker)
  • Row 2: Ch 3 & turn, DC2tog, DC next 4 stitches, DC2tog
  • Row 3: Ch 3 & turn, DC2tog, DC next 3 stitches, DC2tog
  • Row 4: Ch 3 & turn,  DC2tog, DC next 2 stitches, DC2tog
  • Row 5: Ch 3 & turn, DC2tog, DC2tog
  • *Cut and tie off – leave string* 

Rocky Paw Print:

*using 3.5 mm hook*

  • Ch 3 & join ring
  • Row 1: Ch 1, 9 HDC in ring, join with SlSt to Ch 1
  • Row 2: Ch 1, *2 HDC next stitch* join with SlSt to Ch 1
  • Row 3: Ch 1, *2 HDC in next stitch, 1 HDC in next stitch * join with SlSt to Ch 1
  • Cut and tie off – weave in end
  • Apply buttons in paw print shape
  • Use stitch markers to center on hat
  • Use green yarn to apply to hat

Rocky Ears:

*Using the 3.5mm crochet hook* 

  • Row 1: Ch 8
  • Row 2: HDC in second Ch from hook & each chain accross
  • Row 3: Ch 1, HDC2tog, HDC next 6 stitches, HDC2tog
  • Row 4: Ch 1, HDC2tog, HDC next 4 stitches, HDC2tog
  • Row 5: Ch 1, HDC2tog, HDC next 2 stitches, HDC2tog
  • Row 6: Ch 1, HDC2tog, HDC2tog
  • Row 7: Ch 1, HDC2tog
  • *Cut and tie off*

Make 2 ears & attach to side of hat 3 rows down, stitch with green yarn

 

Braids:

  • Cut 10 48′ strands of each color
  • Fold in half and weave through center of ear flap base

  • Separate strands of yarn to like colors & braid
  • Tie knot in end of braid to secure
